Located in the heart of the capital city of the Republic of Ireland, Dublin Castle has a storied history dating back to the early 13th century and is still used for Presidential Inaugurations and State Functions today.
Alongside taking the time to appreciate the magnificent architecture, central tower and grounds of the castle, visitors are able to access the State Apartments, Undercroft, Chapel Royal, Craft Shop, and Heritage Centre.
After visiting the castle your driver-guide will provide recommendations so that you can make the most of the rest of your time in the wonderful city of Dublin, some highlights include:
The Guinness Storehouse
Trinity College and the Book of Kells
Irish Whiskey Museum
Today begins with your private driver taking you to County Tipperary to visit the stunning Rock of Cashel - also known as Cashel of the Kings and St. Patrick's Rock.
A truly must-see location on any tour of Ireland, the Rock of Cashel is a world-renowned archaeological site, hosting the remains and ruins of several medieval buildings and a simply astounding collection of Celtic art and ancient architecture.
In the afternoon, you and your driver-guide will travel to King John’s Castle in Limerick. Originally constructed back in 1200, King John’s Castle is perhaps the best-preserved Norman castle in the whole of Europe.
Once you’ve had a chance to explore the castle, you and your driver-guide will take a quick tour of Limerick - a fascinatingly historic town full of medieval heritage - before settling at your accommodation for the night.
Your driver will take you on a scenic trip through rural Ireland as we travel to Killarney National Park to 15th Century Ross Castle, beautifully situated on the shores of Lough Sheelin.
Once you’ve finished exploring the castle and grounds, we’ll drive to Dunratty Castle - one of Ireland’s most famous castles. Step back in time and see what life was like back in the 15th-16th centuries and explore this vast tower house.
Nearby, you’ll find the Bunratty Castle Hotel - your accommodation for night three of your castle tour.
On the morning of day four, we’ll leave Bunratty Castle Hotel and drive to Dunguaire Castle on the shores of Galway Bay.
This incredible 16th Century construction is famed for hosting meetings of literary revivalists such as Edward Martin, George Bernard Shaw, J.M. Synge, and W.B. Yeats.
In the afternoon, your driver-guide will take you on a tour of the incredible Cliffs of Moher before driving to Galway and arriving at your accommodation for the night.
Galway has a wide range of excellent dining options, pubs, and bars for you and your group to choose from in the evening.
Day five starts as you and your driver-guide leave Galway en route to Castle Saunderson.
Dating to the 14th century, Castle Saunderson was the former seat of the Saunderson family. Although the building now is unhabitable, it still offers visitors an incredible chance to look back into Irish history and the families who lived and thrived in this area.
In the afternoon, we’ll travel north to Derry/Londonderry - the walled city - where you’ll spend the night after exploring the city and learning of its fascinating past.
Today we’ll leave Derry/Londonderry and travel to Glenveagh Castle - a large castellated Mansion House in County Donegal - before driving to County Antrim and the northern coast to visit Dunluce Castle.
Dunluce Castle is a now-ruined castle sitting on the edge of a basalt outcropping, recently made famous for features in HBO’s hit TV series ‘Game of Thrones’ as the setting for Castle Greyjoy.
If we have time left in the day, you may want to visit the nearby town of Bushmills to visit the town’s famous Irish Whiskey Distillery, before driving to Belfast to visit its castle: (you guessed it...) Belfast Castle before your driver-guide drops you off at your accommodation and your Castle tour of Ireland with us is complete!
If your group requires transfers back to Dublin, or any other destination in Ireland, just let your driver-guide know and we'd be happy to help.
