You’ll start this three-day Outlander tour in Scotland’s glorious capital city: Edinburgh. Your driver-guide will pick you up from the airport and head through the city center for a quick tour, where you might want to stop off to visit the famous Edinburgh Castle or Holyrood Palace. We’ll also drive through the cobbled streets of Edinburgh’s Old Town; the filming location for Claire and Jamie’s dramatic reunion after 20 years!
From Edinburgh’s beautiful Old Town, your driver-guide will escort you to Midhope Castle - known in the Outlander series as ‘Lallybroch’, Jamie Fraser’s family home.
Once you finished exploring the stunning estate, we’ll head to our second Edinburgh-based castles on our Outlander tour: Blackness Castle.
Blackness was used to represent the town of Fort William in the Outlander series (as well as being used as a significant backdrop by the producers of the recent blockbuster movie Mary Queen of Scots).
We’ll then bring your first day of your Outlander tour to an end as your driver-guide takes you back to your hotel in Edinburgh, giving you enough time left in the evening if your group wants to explore the city center’s wonderful selection of bars and restaurants.
We leave Edinburgh on the morning on Day Two and head north over the stunning Queensferry bridge on our way to the quaint town of Culross.
Culross is owned and maintained by the National Trust for Scotland meaning it has retained its Jacobite-era style; making it the perfect filming destination for the town of ‘Cranesmuir’ in Outlander.
Once you’ve had a chance to explore the town and spot all your favorite Outlander backdrops, we’ll head to the historic town of Stirling to visit its famous Castle and learn more of its fascinating (yet admittedly incredibly bloody) past.
Next, your driver-guide will take you over to Doune Castle (known in the series as ‘Castle Leoch’), a medieval fortress close to Stirling. The castle’s distinct medieval exterior has also been used recently in the popular series Game of Thrones.
Finally, after a busy day of touring, we’ll finish the day by driving north to Pitlochry where you’ll be dropped off at your accommodation for the night to get a well-earned rest ahead of a big final day.
On our final day on this jam-packed Outlander tour, we spend the morning exploring Pitlochry - which was actually used in the Outlander series to portray North Carolina.
Next, we’ll head to where it all began in the Outlander series: The Standing Stones of Kinloch Rannoch. It was here where Claire was first transported back in time and although the stones were just props created for the show, Kinloch Rannoch is a stunning area and is well worth the visit.
Following a wee stop for some lunch, we’ll drive across central Scotland en route to the stunning Glencoe Mountain Range and pay a visit to the Three Sisters. After just a short walk around the area, you’ll soon understand why the producers of Outlander chose Glencoe to feature in the series’ opening credits as it’s beauty and dramatic peaks are truly awe-inspiring.
If you have time after exploring all the Outlander locations in Glencoe, we might have time to take a quick Gondola trip up Ben Nevis before we head back to Fort William where this three-day Outlander tour will finish.
Transfers are also available to Glasgow or Edinburgh.
